Hi, my name is Ivone Rebelo. I am a registered psychologist with an extensive 20 years of clinical experience. Over time, I’ve come to really appreciate the balance between offering practical tools that help ease distress and also making space to listen to what our emotions and symptoms are trying to tell us, where they might be coming from. I see emotions and symptoms as really valuable signals, helping us make sense of what’s going on and to better understand what we may be needing.
Background
My initial clinical training was at Macquarie University’s world renound Emotional Health Clinic, where I worked for over 10 years. I had the role of Senior Manager at the Mindspot Clinic for it's first two years in operation and worked as a board approved supervisor for Macquarie University for several years.
I have also worked with Sydney University's Torture Prevention Team at to help frontline staff with burnout prevention and currently work with the Matilda Centre at Sydney University developing an online intervention for parents drinking to cope.
In addition, I have worked in a wide range of clinical settings and locations across Sydney including Parramatta Psychology Clinic, North Sydney Child Clinic and my own private practice since 2015 in Glebe, Lewisham, Summer Hill and now Campsie.
Current Work and Therapeutic Approach
I currently run a Private Practice located in Campsie and via Telehealth. I am also a Research Clinician at University of Sydney, Faculty of Medicine with the perinatal mental health team. I hold extensive experience working with mothers pre and post birth, including parents experiencing post natal depression, anxiety and parenting burnout. This has become a particular passion for me having become a mother myself since 2017.
In my practice, I specialise in guiding adults through personal growth and overcoming understandable life challenges such as panic, anxiety, low mood, trauma, grief and loss, parenthood, separation and divorce, relationship issues, sex/sexuality/kink and sex related issues, workplace burnout, etc.
I also have 20 years experience working with children and adolescents with a wide range of mental health concerns. I have experience with running the Cool Kids Program, Cool Teens Program, Excessive Worry Program, Social Anxiety Program, Panic Surfing Program, Creating Confident Kids Program, Study Without Stress Program and Fly Without Fear Program. I also have extensive experience treating several phobias and child related tics, trichotillomania, eating difficulties, child OCD and child/adolescent complex trauma including grief and loss.
Importantly I take a practical approach that mainly does not include diagnostic work, particularly with children. I view mental health as arising out of an interrelationship between an individual, their formative history and their context or world and seek to actively understand that interplay collaboratively, pragmatically and compassionately with my clients. My focus is on what is going on and what can we do about it.
